Creating A Rustic Room with Log Home Chinking
I was exploring the internet for some ideas for lodge style decor and found this neat site about log homes which has some really great project ideas to achieve a rustic feel.
You would think that a log cabin site, www.BearfortLodge.com, would be strictly a guy thing but while exploring I came across a rather amusing article where he says that women are better at chinking log homes than men. What a riot. Women Unite! I hadn’t expected to see anything like that so I had to investigate further.
I have always had an appreciation for log cabins - they are so romantic and serene. The natural elements featured in log homes are soothing to the soul and psyche. I would love to create a room that had that same feel.
I took a look at another log home site where they do not use chinking and I have to say that they really don’t have that same rustic feel. I like the style where each log is divided by that white line. It is such a beautiful element. I wondered how I could create the same feel in a room.
Believe it or not he has an article on how to do just that called Log Home Chinking: Simulating a Chinked Log Wall. The article explains how to make a wall look like a log wall with chinking. It would be a great way to make a den or a family room feel like a log cabin in the woods. It would be a fun project and reading his article it looks like it would be pretty easy to do.
This site is very extensive with so many beautiful photos. It is really a magnificent lodge in the mountains. He also has a keen eye for log home decor.
If you would like to try making chinking he does give a chinking recipe for white interior chinking. Apparently it is different from the kind they make for the exterior. He has a lot of information on the subject so if you would like to create a room that feels like a log cabin take a look at all the articles on log home chinking.
It seems that he answers readers questions about projects so go ahead and comment and mention that you heard about him from Ftypes.com
